Navigating separation or divorce without a lawyer is overwhelming. The Ryerson Legal Innovation Zone set out to build a digital tool helping self represented Ontarians understand their rights and options clearly.
Approach
We led UX research and design for the Family Law Portal alongside the Legal Innovation Zone and its partners, turning complex legal processes into a clear, step by step experience balancing empathy, accuracy, and usability.
Results
The Family Law Portal launched in 2019 as a free resource for Ontarians navigating family law, supporting decisions around parenting, safety, support, and property division.
Impact
The portal has endured as a public utility for over six years, serving thousands of users across the province during one of life's hardest transitions.
